West End

July 3, 2019 by Meg McWhorter

Add an eclectic mix of dining options, a full scale replica of the Greek Parthenon in one of Nashville’s finest parks, sprinkle in a couple legendary venues, and you have West End. It’s just across the way from Elliston Place and waiting to be explored.

Nashville’s Centennial Park is a mecca of entertainment. Throughout the spring and fall seasons Musicians Corner takes over Centennial Park every Saturday from 1:30-5pm offering FREE live music, a children’s activities area, and some Music City food trucks to provide a days worth of fun for the whole family. Then, there’s the annual Shakespeare in the Park as The Nashville Shakespeare Festival puts on fine productions of The Bard’s best work for FREE each summer. One can’t forget about the SoundHarvest. The inaugural year invited top musical acts The Weeks, The Last Internationale, Benjamin Booker, Allen Stone, and The Flaming Lips. We can’t wait to see who plays next year! OH! And how about the festivals?! Each year, Centennial Park plays host to a multitude of festivals including Tennessee Craft Fair, Celebrate Nashville Cultural Festival, and so many more!

While things move in and out of Centennial Park one thing in particular always remains, The Parthenon. This amazing work of art is the worlds only full scale reproduction of the famous Greek temple. Inside stands the Athena Parthenos, the tallest indoor sculpture in the Western World at 42 feet tall. Also, they have their own art gallery which showcases a variety of exhibits. Let us not forget to mention the details on the park itself. It’s over 132 acres which includes plenty of green space to enjoy, a one mile walking trail, and many historic shrines to see.

Located just before Centennial Park is a famous Nashville dive bar called Springwater Supper Club & Lounge. The same place where the Black Keys filmed their video for “Little Black Submarines.” On a nightly basis they provide excellent tunes and cold beer for anyone looking to catch a good time in Music City.

Now, let’s talk about the food because West End has A LOT to offer. You can’t go wrong with Amerigo Italian Restaurant. They have it all. From hand made pizzas to wood-fired steaks it’s a great place to accommodate everyone’s interest. Journey on over to Mason’s located inside Loews Vanderbilt Hotel. This amazing spot offers a menu of seasonal Southern inspired cuisine that explores the traditions of Appalachian food ways with a modern European execution using the freshest ingredients possible. If you are hungry for a classic burger then head on over to Rotiers Restaurant. This restaurant is famous for their signature French Bread Burger. If you still need a few recommendations check out Hog Heaven, Blackstone Brewery, Americano Tapas Bar, or Nama Sushi.

Located on Church Street in West End is Tribe, Suzy Wong’s House of Yum, and Play. While Nashville welcomes anyone, anywhere, at anytime these nightlife hot spots have become a center for the LGBT community. Each place offers a night of entertainment where you can dance, sing, and have fun in Music City.

Let’s not forget about all the shopping you may do in West End. Find your next great outfit with J. Michaels Clothiers, pick out the perfect piece of Music City art at Spirit of Nashville, and if you ever need adventure gear head to Cumberland Transit.
